Day 3
1) found some running friends! yay! there was bound to be someone else who was lowkey addicted, so im hopeful for the future of running on this trip
2) first classes! poli and econ are going to be very interdisciplinary i think and more about political economy than either of the two distinct disciplines...re thinking about economics and models, talking about how models use assumptions and are usually wrong but still can be useful, also questioning notions of scarcity and how that relates to actual amount of resource vs access to resource
3) also did some unpacking and complicating of the terms "academic learning" and "culture." v curious to see how anthro class unfolds bc its also sort of a methods class. interesting bc i have more of a soc background
4) had a small beet sandwich for lunch then went in search of apples but none to be had
5) today was a lovely sunny day!
6) afternoon activity was a tour (tourist designed) through downtown atlanta talking about the role of food and civil rights. most interesting part to me was hearing from an older black man who worked in the restaurant (paschals) that was the hq for mlk. was interesting to contrast his storytelling approach to that of our (white woman) tour guide. storytelling/framing was v interesting in general for this tour
7) tried "the best pecan praline in the us" at sweet auburn market
8) bit of wandering in downtown atlanta
9) some alone time in my hotel rm bc i went back with an earlier group bc i had a phone call to make, ate some leftovers including a cucumber popsicle bc hehehe hotel minifridges yikesss
10) words of the day: experiential learning
