Day 15
1) estamos en Ecuador! woke up to the beautiful sun shining in through our giant hotel window. it was 645, went to bed at 2am after the airport, so went back to sleep eventually. whole day was kind of tired but getting sleep tonight
2) our hotel is lovely! lots of green space, some alpacas roaming around, a nice gym and spa an soccer field and play structure and a big breakfast selection
3) breakfast: plantains, rice, scrambled eggs, fried tortilla balls, assorted cheeses, lots of fruit, granola bar.....and many other things i didnt try! will try over the course of next 2 days
4) truly enchanting views of the mountains! we're not in quito city proper yet, and still pretty near airport, so lots of loud planes whooshing overhead. but the mountain views are stunning
5) our morning activity was sharing stories, and it got really vulnerable and intense, most of us cried, listening to others or telling our own stories. i told the story of my name and how ive come to interpet "child of the people" in my life. a lot of people talked about community or family and even though my experiences are different, there are resonances of love and loss and gratitude and hope and belonging and feeling. unexpected start to our ecuador experience but huge bonding time and lots of group hugs to be had
6) lunch was at hotel, featuring a sauce made with tomato, passionfruit, beer, some other stuff. on chicken, or mushrroms for us nonmeateaters. also plantains, popcorn, blackberry juice, rice, and salad including avocado
7) afternoon was time for some logistics and plans for the next 4 weeks! really excited for it all, mostly we'll be in quito but we're doing some trips to the cloud forest as well
8) homestay families on tuesday! ill be with my same roommate from georgia, and we have a family with two daughtesr, ages 3 and 18! me ilusiona practicar espanol y jugar con la nina pequena!
9) word of the day: grateful
10) dinner at a small town, had a falafel sandwich! cheap and delicious
