Day 19
1) granadilla is the special fruit of breakfast today!
2) another survival spanish class! tbh its pretty basic but some useful things are that they call peanuts "mani" here, "funda" is for plastic bag (ie at market), aji is chile peppers...im having to adjust from my spain spanish to ecuador spanish, ive noticed that my host fam uses indicar whereas my BCN family used enseƱar
3) being here and getting to practice spanish again is really reinforcing my desire to live for an extended period immersion in spanish so that i can truly be forced to speak and learn more. post-vassar?
4) visited agrupar conquito, which is a municipality partnered program for urban agriculture in quito! they help set up farms/community gardens throughout the city, which also includes periurban and rural areas (quito is quite large i guess)
5) a packed lunch that was v yummy, vegetarian pesto sandwich and then carrot cake mmm
6) work time! at one of the projects of agrupar, in the older part of the city. big on compost and waste, managed by a german enviro engineer and an ecuadorian woman who used to work sorting waste
7) we planted tomatoes in the greenhouse, sembramos tomates en el invernadero

9) visited a park with our host family to see vendors who sell las tripas, aka intestines of all sorts! it smelled good (in a meaty sort of way) but we did not try any
10) yummy fish soup for dinner, with fish bones, peanuts, plantains, yuca. muy rico. se comen con palomitas (los llaman canguil aqui en ecuador) y platanos fritos. tambien hicimos ensalada con mango! delicioso
