Day 9

1) a lovely sunrise
2) visit to white oak pastures, a regenerative livestock farm! toured the farm and talked to the owner and his daughter
3) they are net carbon sequesterers, bc of organic matter in the soil they sequester more than they produce even with beef, poultry, hog, guinea, turkey production
4) they have a lot of land and their own USDA processing plant
5) https://www.whiteoakpastures.com/
6) they use the whole animal pretty much, use tallow for candles and moisturizer, rawhides, tracheas, and pizzles for dog chew toys, and most everything else for compost i believe
7) very interesting to hear his general philosophy on eating meat, agriculture and policy, etc etc
8) words of the day: closed systems
9) thought it was interesting that he said this model is not scalable but that it is replicatable
10) dinner at indian food and then a quick target trip to acquire yogurt and veggies. fun fact, there are no sidewalks here
