Day 36
1) i seem to have inadvertently trained my body to wake up at 6am, even when i want to sleep in....
2) ive started incorporating tricep pushups into the daily 100
3) we went to machachi this morning with the host fam to go to the market. terrible traffic on the way there but a beautiful ride, so many green mountains on either side
4) the market was so fun! lots of fruits and vegetables, whole section for potatoes, and a prepared food place as well. we tried tortillas de maiz (con queso adentro), a thick fruity warm drink called colada morada, a funky juice with egg, alfafa and granadilla and then some salty toasted corn and favas with cevichocho sauce. we also walked past an extensive array of raw meat products, which was a little bit of a sensory overload for me but a good cultural experience
5) a quick note about corn: there are so many types! tostada, chulpi, mote, choclos, morocho partido...maiz de todos!
6) i was really glad to go to the market with our host family, bc they showed us many good things! the prepared food, but also some fun honey and pollen samples, sugar cane, and good fruit deals (3 bags of fruit for 1 dollar!)
7) i was super tired in the afternoon, so i took a brief nap before getting back to work on our final essays. i almost done with everything! in case your curious the assignments are: stakeholder profile based on an interview we've done, econ essay about gender relations (mine relates to marxism and feminism), an environment essay about compost, and environment essay about agroecology, and an anthro essay based on market spaces
8) went to the teleferico this afternoon, which is a gondola that goes up from quito to the top of pichincha volcano. we walked around the trails at the top, saw lots of bunnies, beautiful views and sunset. good view of the city lights on the way down! this was one of my bucket list items for quito so im glad, could definitely have spent more time hiking though!
9) dinner at home, fried rice and salad and then off to bed bc i am tired!
