Day 39

1) word of the day: closings
2) the internal clock is really set to 6/630am...tbh im grateful for this!
3) finished reading an anthology of indigenous LGBTQ/two-spirit sci-fi short stories that Im borrowing from a friend on the trip
4) last walk down to class! had a call with our country coordinator for malawi to start preparing
5) last speaker of Ecuador! we heard from someone at FAO who used to work in Rome but is not in Ecuador. he mentioned that the narrative has shifted from needing to produce more food to trying to increase access to food and improve environmental practices, but it still seems like many projects focus on production bc that is the primary domain of FAO
6) quick lunch nearby and then some lovely time on the grass, it was a beautiful day today!
7) walked to a little art gallery with some classmates on the way home
8) we had a goodbye dinner with our whole group and all the host mothers. it was very special and sweet, and we all brought objects that represented our families. we brought salt as a reminder of the llama excursion and all the fun adventures we have had with our family, and jam to represent our mother. mango maracuya jam, it is both familiar and comforting (mango) and new and exciting (maracuya). our host mother brought fruit to represent us, for me she chose a chirimoya because i like it a lot and because she says it is sweet and agreeable and inside it has many seeds which represent the friends i will have bc of my personality. that is my not so poetic way of summing it up but overall it was sooo sweet and it made me cry. the fact that things are coming to a close is finally starting to hit me!
9) the restaurant we went to, appropriately, was v focused on local food and intentionality and we had yummy things! bread with beets (kind of like sourdough) and fish with coconut sauce, rice, and plantains, and for dessert and pineapple carrot cake with blueberry sauce
10) i am packing for break and most likely will not post again until after break, on march 10!
