Morning Sun to Evening Wind
My east-facing bedside window makes for a gentle morning wake-up, easing me into the day before my alarm. I love the harmony of body clock and natural light that make sliding out of bed to meet the day feel like a gift and not a chore!
My first run experience: a short morning jaunt along the Owl trail with ocean views the whole time, arriving at Muir Beach overlook, and a short traipse into the neighborhood above Muir Beach. In the future, I'll get down to the beach and start off into trails on the other side...but the summer awaits and my shoes are ready for miles ahead!
Upon my return, a plate of eggs and toast outside my door! A morning of meeting and greeting and then another short hike to explore favorite tree spots, wander down to the beach and tide pools, and begin to learn more about the plants along the trails. Today was a big learning day! We also got introduced to all the animals –the honeybees, in both top-bar and langstroth hives; the goats and sheep on the pasture, and the chicken coop and duck coop. I hope to become better acquainted with all these new friends, emulating Heidi vibes in the pasture and embracing my inner bird brain for some squawking and quacking shenanigans.
I also explored the garden a bit today, and am oh so excited to be allowed to cook! There is an abundance of beautiful chard and lettuce, but what tickles me most is the rhubarb...pie and tarts and crisp shall come to fruition! This first week of not being able to participate in kitchen use is a bit sad, but I'm also grateful for the foodstuffs we are being served -veg tofu stir fry at lunch and chickpea chard curry for dinner. I actually believe most of the other folks here eat meat, but I believe our main source for that is animals slaughtered at the ranch, so its not in great abundance.
Living in this proximity to nature makes it hard to sit inside and do work, so I find myself wandering the trails or sitting outside to read or peruse the teaching manual, neglecting the tasks of my recent past such as email and reading the news...I'm working to figure out a productive balance for this, but for now it seems an allowable luxury to delight in whale spouts and sunsets. My cat soul is thankful for these sunny days, but the wind had me all layered up this evening...the ocean is a multi-sensory companion!
Sweet dreams to the stars that are not yet visible, to the mice I know are hiding out there, and to the lovely nasturtiums lining my porch.
