week 2 comes to a close

Today was Harry Potter's birthday, so we celebrate dat camp with chocolate cake and quidditch in the garden, and lots of care of magical creatures time...chickens and milking the goats. we also made some defense against the dark arts pom-poms and received lots of correspondence from dumbledore and harry through our owls. of course, we also read some of the book for snack and lunch time! im still working on my hagrid voice

milking got our creative juices flowing and some of my campers propose that we have a goat spa day, to clean and paint their hooves and to give them a good wash. we also have coined the term "milksage" to describe the massaging of the udders that we do at the end of milking to get all the last milk into the teat

in other camp news, yesterday was a big day of process over product: we created some burnt meringues because piping turned into smearing meringue into a think layer and i didnt think to adjust baking time as drastically as i should have. we also did a parachute project for pebble plum and her friends, gus the platypus and stingy stingray. we did not have terribly long air-time success but campers loved it anyway. i attempted to have us skirt wool today, which is picking out the poopy bits from a sheared coat, but this was not met with enthusiasm...too gross and dirty

we are continuing to receive notes from frump, and we hope to meet him next week!

im still having a great time with the kiddos, but some of the shininess has worn off and there are times when i cant believe how many times ive asked them to pick up their backpacks and get ready to go, or that i need to remind them to eat lunch every 2 minutes, or that we are still working on remembering to say please and thank you

moments:
a camper told me yesterday- before i knew turnips were a vegetable i thought ur last name was turnip
they really want to milk the goats, and have suggested that the goats wear 2 masks and we wear gloves in order to make it covid safe
we created a collaborative story around the campfire yesterday: Pebble plum saved Gus in a car crash. Gus almost died. Stingy almost died. Gus saved stingy. There was a cliff that Gus fell down and pebble saved him. Pebble parachuted down to save Gus. Pebble was in a fire and stingy saved her. Pebble was at a baseball game and rolled down the seats and Gus saved her. Then a baseball hit her in the teeth! Superman crashed into the Tower of London and no one helped him. That’s because they were all saving their friends from an ice cream explosion. Then Gus farted. Pebble plum went into a portal that brought her to the land of ice cream. Pebble plum slipped on the ice cream street. Pebble walked to the grocery store and saw stingy. Stingy was in a fire. Pebble plum helped stingy. Oh no ! Pebble got hit by a baseball! A baseball entered her anus and came out her mouth. Then she pooped in the middle of the baseball diamond. The poop made art in the shape of a peace sign.

in non-camp news, i have been getting lovely visits from the cats, eating lots of vegetables, and feeling a little tired because i miss the sun, but she came out today, hooray!!
