done with teaching!

its friday! and i am done with teaching!

this friday felt sort of anticlimactic compared to last friday's long waving goodbye situation, but i think its to be expected since i only knew these kids for a week. it was sad to say bye to my teen fellow assistant counselor, she was amazing! i seriously think she did as much work as i did and was honestly better at it at some points! im definitely reflecting a lot on what it was like to be sort of burnt out this week and not devote myself to teaching in the way i had previously, and feeling like i didnt give the kids the best experience that i could have...not sure.

we did still have some good moments! we made a group poem this morning and did cookie dough constellations. yesterday we made a fire and also did turmeric dye, which they really enjoyed. they also discovered a secret bathtub in the trees, so that was an exciting moment of free play exploration. one of my campers is also really into the clay down at the beach, and so he has made model planets that he plans to use in a mobile. super cool! it was really hot today, so the beach involved a lot of getting thoroughly soaked and them complainy campers on the hike back up.

in terms of grievances, i do not understand why children care so much about being first in line!! i mean, i understand but it drives me bonkers and trying to do a line order didn't help much either. so we've been having some drama around that, and pushing and shoving and saying not nice things. but all dealt with more or less and they are gone now!

in sadder news, we have been losing lots of chickens to the raccoons lately.

weather has been WARM even out here on the coast. we've had beautiful sunsets and stars too. this morning there was a rainbow bc there was a very brief summer shower.

food is always fun, yesterday was a grill fest of veggies and flatbread. we've gotten dark figs from the farmers market and other wonderful fruit and veggie delights too!

my harvest chore is now garden projects too, so i did some uppotting and also weeding out crops that are done. today we also did some seed saving which was awesome, seeds are amazing!
